The Oyo State Primary Health Care Board has commemorated this year’s World Malaria Day with a community awareness rally, free malaria testing, and distribution of free malaria drugs to residents of Alafara community and its environs. The event, which attracted health officials, community leaders, residents, and stakeholders, was organized to intensify awareness on malaria prevention, early diagnosis, and prompt treatment as part of efforts to reduce the burden of malaria across Oyo State.


Addressing participants during the rally, the Malaria Desk Officer of the Board, Mrs. Grace Omobolanle Dotun-Fasasi, emphasized the importance of regular health checks and proper preventive measures against malaria. She particularly advised pregnant women to register and attend antenatal care services at the nearest Primary Health Care facility to enable proper screening, preventive treatment, and adequate medical attention throughout pregnancy. According to her, early detection and treatment remain key factors in preventing severe malaria complications among vulnerable groups.

Also speaking during the commemoration, Dr. Akande Abiodun urged residents of Alafara community to remain conscious of malaria by maintaining clean surroundings, sleeping under treated mosquito nets, and embracing all recommended malaria prevention measures. He further encouraged community members to take advantage of the accessible and affordable healthcare services available at Primary Health Care centres for timely testing, treatment, and medical support.


The World Malaria Day commemoration further highlighted the unwavering commitment of the Board towards strengthening community health awareness, improving access to quality healthcare services, and promoting healthier living among residents of Oyo State. The exercise also featured health education sessions and community engagement activities aimed at reinforcing the collective fight against malaria.
