Protecting Our Future: Vaccination Saves Lives
Every parent wants their child to grow up healthy, but many don’t realize how vulnerable children are to preventable diseases. In Oyo State, we’re fortunate to have free vaccination services at all Primary Health Centers (PHCs). Here are the 5 most critical vaccines your child needs:
- Polio Vaccine (OPV/IPV)
Polio can cause permanent paralysis. Nigeria was declared polio-free in 2020, but maintaining vaccination is crucial. Babies receive this at birth, 6, 10, and 14 weeks. - Measles Vaccine
This highly contagious disease causes fever, rash, and can lead to blindness. Given at 9 months, with a booster at 15-18 months. - Yellow Fever Vaccine
Required for school enrollment in Oyo State, this single dose (usually at 9 months) provides lifetime protection against this deadly mosquito-borne disease. - Hepatitis B Vaccine
Given within 24 hours of birth, this protects against liver infection that can lead to cancer later in life. - Pentavalent Vaccine
This “5-in-1” vaccine protects against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Hib, and hepatitis B in a single shot at 6, 10, and 14 weeks.
Where to Vaccinate:
All OYOPHCB facilities provide these vaccines FREE of charge. Simply visit your nearest PHC with your child’s immunization card. No child should suffer from vaccine-preventable diseases when protection is available!
